Child Development (Young Children)
In the first few years of life, a child’s brain develops more than at any other time with more than one million neural connections formed each second. The quality of a child’s experiences helps to shape how their brain develops and sets the foundation for learning, how they get along with others, and how they respond to daily stresses and challenges.
Parents and caregivers provide the most intimate context for the nurturing and protection of children as they grow and develop. Nurturing and responsive care for the child’s body and mind is the key to supporting optimal development.
Parents and caregiver’s role is providing the encouragement, support and access to activities that enable the child to master key developmental tasks as they go through a series of developmental stages. While every developmental stage has milestones, development is not a race. Each child grows and develops at his own pace. Learning about child development can guide your parenting and help your child reach their potential.
